Family Lifestyle Things to do with kids water park

Sesame Place- Tips that will help you get through the day.

When I was younger, I used to love Sesame Street; we watched it almost daily as kids. So when I got older and had my children, they followed in their mom’s footsteps. When my friend invited me to Sesame Place, I couldn’t pass up the offer.

What’s the best part about taking the kids on an outing? Taking them on a trip with another mommy friend and her kiddies.

Sometimes as moms, we do not take enough time to spend with the girls. Once we finally do, we check our phones every so often to make sure the family is still functioning fine without us.
The fact is, they are going to be okay, and we are just being controlling.

Where the story begins.

This story begins like many of my other stories. I was scrolling through Instagram and saw one of my friends constantly posting pictures of places she was visiting with her kids.
After months of liking her pictures, I finally commented under one of her posts and said, “Hey, why don’t you ever invite us?

Her response was like any other friendly reply via social media “You’re welcome to come anytime.”
Now we all know how this story turns out; you reach out to someone you haven’t seen in person in forever. Comment on their post. They say, “Sure, let’s link up; I’ll let you know when we are going somewhere again,” and it never happens.
Well, that wasn’t this story.

A couple of months later, I hadn’t seen in real life in a long time/my Instagram friend invited my family to join her family and go to Sesame Place.
OMG, what was a girl to do?

I could’ve easily told a lie and said, “Oh, that month, we are busy sorrrrrrrrry.” But I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t wrap my brain around lying to someone who kept their part of our Instagram comments.
Let me just add. I am a socially awkward in-person friend. We can talk back and forth on the phone for hours, and we can text each other all day long. However, when it comes to us having to meet in real life….. OMG, my awkwardness takes over. Weirdest thing ever.

Now let’s talk about Sesame Place.

What to bring with you.

If you are going in the summer, I highly recommend bringing a bathing suit for all the water rides. If your kids are anything like any child on planet earth, they will want to get wet.

It’s also good to pack a towel and a change of clothes to put on once your children are done playing in the water area.

Water shoes are also a good idea to wear to the park because it’s easier to jump in the water and jump out with water shoes.

I wore flip-flops, and to be honest, it felt like the water was grabbing hold of my flip-flop every time I got out of it. Eventually, I had to take my flip-flops off before we went into every water section.

You should bring a cooler with you as well. Sesame Place no longer allows coolers or outside food into the park, but I will explain why I say get a cooler later.

If you are visiting on a hot day, bringing some sunscreen for the family might be a bonus.
I think I have said everything on the checklist.

Parking

The parking lot is directly across the street from Sesame Place, so there will be a short walk. All guests who park in the parking lot must pay for parking unless they have a season pass that includes your parking.

Admission

You can purchase tickets at the front gate or online. If you buy the tickets for the same day online, you can save about 10%.

From the website, it looks as though Sesame Place has better pricing for families who purchase their tickets online days or weeks ahead of time. If you know for sure you will go, I would take advantage of the online discount.

Being a season pass cardholder has some perks. You can enter the park pretty much any day and get your guest in for a discount. For some season cardholders, you can get your friends in for free. Remember, they would still have to pay for parking if they did not ride in the same car as you.

Sesame Place App

Walking down the street

Once you get to the front gate and through a security check, I advise downloading the app. The Sesame Place app is beneficial during your visit.

The app will show you a map of the park and other information, such as; what time activities or events are taking place. It will also let you know where your favorite Sesame Street character will be for a photo opp.

Trust me; this app will help you make the most of your trip.

Things to do

What is there not to do at this place? Sesame Place will entertain you from the time you walk into the entrance until you leave. When we first walked in, my children were distracted by the beautiful landscaping.

After you go through the entrance, different characters have been cut out of bushes, leaving your children excited and somehow energized.

I can’t say the children were the only ones impressed. I stopped them at least 5 times to get the perfect picture in front of the beautifully crafted Sesame Street characters.

Surprisingly, this happened to be one of the times they did not complain about me taking pictures.

Did I tell you Sesame Place had a ton of water rides?

The best part about Sesame place is that they have rides for all different ages. My kids are not great when it comes to rides that move and are high off the ground. We like to stick with the attractions that can keep our feet as close to the ground as possible.

Our favorite water attractions at the park were the Big Bird’s Ramble River, Ernie’s waterworks, The Count’s Splash Castle, and Teeny Tiny Tidal Wave.

Other water attractions look so cool, but my children haven’t dared to try those yet.

Water Slides:

Sky Splash

Abby’s Fairy Falls

Slimey’s Chutes

Elmo’s Silly Splashy Slide

These rides look like a lot of fun. It will be exciting to go on them once my kids get a little older.

Dry Rides

Sesame Place has its fair share of dry rides as well. Once done with the water rides, we went to the bathroom to dry the kids and change their clothes.

One good thing about having a stroller is that you can pack all of your belongings in the stroller and carry everything along with you. Don’t worry; if you don’t have a stroller to lug around, you can also rent a locker for the day.

The children usually think it’s time to leave once they have put on their clothes. So they were ecstatic when they found out Sesame Place had a whole other side to it with dry rides.
There were so many options for the kids to enjoy. Their favorite was when they learned how to play a new game called “What time is it, Mr. Fox?” In the Slimy Square area.

Food

Sesame Places has a variety of food options for you to choose from. There are different dishes, from Mac & Cheese to Salad to chicken fingers and burgers. I even love the options to grab and go or to sit down and eat as a family.

If your taste buds are looking for something a little different to eat altogether, there are a few restaurants in the area within walking distance.

Or if you’re like me, sometimes I like to just bring my food. Because you can re-enter the park as long as you have your tickets, there’s always an option to pack a cooler and leave it in your car.
We use a Yeti and love it. We have put ice in our Yeti on different occasions, and the ice will last most days. Surprisingly the ice will stay on very hot days too.

Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?

LOL… I had to do it. Am I a dork for that? I am the funniest person to myself at times.
Sesame Street is about a 45-minute drive from where we live, so there are no complaints from this momma or her little cubs.

If you live further away, you can always book a hotel nearby. Sesame Place also has two-day tickets you can purchase to make an excellent getaway if you would like.

If your family enjoys outdoor theme parks, click here to check out my post about Legoland New York.

While you’re in the area, also check out the Please Touch Museum.
