Whenever we traveled to Florida in the past, I always wanted to visit Legoland, but we never had the time to go. So when I found out Legoland NY would be right in our backyard, I couldn’t wait for it to open.
As a child, you can play with Legos and never get tired. However, when you become an adult, you are scarred for life by stepping on Legos randomly lying on the floor in your child’s room. Now that you are a parent of a child who plays with Legos, you are the best parent ever when you surprise your kid with a Legoland trip for her birthday weekend.
Initially, when we planned this trip to Legoland, New York, we decided to stay at the resort. Well…….. When I first looked up the rooms two months before our vacation to Legoland, rooms were still available.
There was a choice between the Pirate Themed Room, Kingdom Theme Room, Lego Friends Theme Room, and Lego Ninjago Themed Room.
However, a procrastinating thought crept into my mind that we could book the hotel for a later date. Low and behold, when we finally were ready to book our trip, no more rooms were available at the resort.
Thank goodness, there was a hotel about 10 minutes from Legoland that still had rooms available.
Since I did not want to repeat the same mistake twice, I decided to reserve our tickets for the park online.
Admission to Legoland New York
Where can I purchase my tickets?
Tickets can be purchased online or at Legoland New York Theme Park. I found that purchasing your tickets online is better because you can use coupon codes to take advantage of discount offers.
Purchasing tickets online will guarantee your entry into the park on the day you have reserved. When we arrived at Legoland New York, there was a sign at the entrance of the parking lot which said, “Sold out.”
I hardly ever plan in advance. However, in this case, I’m happy we did.
Can I change my ticket date?
On the day we were supposed to go to the park, I checked the forecast to see what the weather would be. The estimate showed it would rain for 90% of the day, so we decided to change the date we would visit the park.
Changing our date was very easy to do. If you are having trouble adjusting your reservation, go to Legoland’s website frequently asking questions to get step-by-step instructions. Legoland gives you two times to change your reservation in that calendar year.
Will my children enjoy Legoland?
A good age range for Legoland is from 2 to 12 years old. My children are ages 5 and 8, and they loved it.

You can pay for parking online when you reserve your tickets or pay for parking before you leave the park.
What to bring with you when visiting Legoland NY.
If you are going in the late spring or summertime, you should make sure you have some if not all of the things on this list:
- Comfortable walking shoes.
- Sunscreen
- Backpack
- Water
- Snacks
- Wear lightweight clothes
- Tylenol
- Credit Card
- Sunglasses
- Sun hat
- Wet wipes
- Hand sanitizer
- A stroller if you have small kids
I’m probably giving away my age by the list above. Listen, if you know, like I know, you want to be well prepared for any trip to a theme park, especially after you’ve spent all of the money to get into the place.
It’s very important to wear comfortable shoes because there’s a lot of walking throughout the park and not that many places to sit.
Can I bring food into Legoland NY
Legoland does allow you to bring in food. Whenever we go to a place that requires lots of walking and sun, I like to bring a refreshing snack for our family.
Our snack pack includes grapes, oranges, cherries, strawberries, and water bottles. When packing snacks on hot days, you want to pack something that will be lightweight on the stomach but also refreshing.
On one of our trips to Legoland, I got on a ride that I know I shouldn’t have, but since I have a hard head, I got on it anyway. I even tried to encourage other parents in line with their children to get on it too, but they obviously were smarter than I was in this decision-making process.
It was a spinning ride!
Welp, I got sick on a hot day, and no matter what I tried to do, I could not recover. I ended up having the worst headache I’ve had in a long time. This headache was probably worse than a hangover. I haven’t had one of those in years either.
No Cash/ Credit cards only.
After having a massive headache, I visited one of Legoland’s gift shops to purchase Tylenol. Once we got to the register to pay, the cashier informed me that the entire park was credit card only.
Even when we went to play the carnival games, the attendant let us know they did not accept cash, which is suitable for the theme park but probably not so good for parents.
When you’re constantly swiping your card, it’s hard to keep track of how much you are spending throughout the day.
You can always purchase a prepaid card for the day at your local town store, and once you get to the end of your balance, you can say, “No more spending.”
There’s not a lot of shade.
There’s not a lot of shade throughout this park. If you are a person that cannot take the heat, I suggest bringing a sun hat.
The sun did not hurt my eyes, but there are times when I’ve had friends who needed to wear sunglasses to avoid getting a headache. What the heck? Yeah, I have old lady friends. What can I say?
It’s best to wear light colors and comfortable clothes, especially in the later spring and summer months, because you will likely sweat.
Along the path through mini-lego land, benches are provided for you to sit down and take a break. There is an umbrella on each of the benches for shade.
Legoland NY App/Map
Legoland has two ways to navigate through the park. You can either download the app from your smartphone or pick up a paper map at the park entrance.
Since I was born in the 1900s, I much rather go with the paper map. My children also love the paper map because it makes them feel like they are going on a treasure hunt to each location.
Summer loves looking at the map to find out where we are by looking at the surrounding area and then at the map to see if she can find the buildings or rides that match our location.
I call it learning while having fun.
Things to do at Legoland NY
There are so many different types of activities to do at Legoland NY. To name a few, you can choose between getting wet on a water ride, staying dry on the roller coasters or spinning rides, learning to drive at the Legoland driving school, fighting ninja’s on the 3D rides, or you can go inside and build a Lego race car or building.
There are also shows to check out while you are there.
The one thing that I appreciate as an adult is the Miniland. Miniland is a replica of different cities throughout the United States.
Legoland announced in the summer of 2022 that they are adding a waterpark.
Food
Even though we bring snacks, our family still likes to sit and enjoy park food. (That’s what we call it) There’s a variety of foods to choose from. Legoland offers anything from pizza to buffet-style meals. There are also grab-and-go or sit-down family meals.
Both times we visited the park, we ate at Smokey’s Brick-B-Que, and we were not let down; the food was delicious.
Legoland was also the park that introduced me to Apple fries. I had never heard of such a thing, but when I saw fried apple sticks with whipped cream and topped with caramel, I knew I had to give it a chance. Very, very, very sweet; you’ll need to drink some water once you finish.
I kept saying, this is my last fry. And sure enough, my last fry was when the box was empty.
Drinks
If you are running low on water, there are water stations located in the park for you to refill your bottle or bag.
We have a book bag with a reservoir connected to a straw, allowing you to drink directly from the bookbag. Cool, isn’t it? 😉
There are also hydration stations where you can purchase a cup to refill your entire day.
Should I get a 2-day pass for Legoland NY?
I could not do Legoland two days a row because the heat was too much for me. On the same token, I did get to the park pretty early and did not leave until the park was about to close.
If you get to Legoland early, especially during the week, it’s more than likely you will be able to get on enough rides to satisfy your visit.
I would not go back to back but could visit a couple of times throughout the year. Okay, maybe I’m lying. I could go to Legoland about once a year while the kids are young.
